7-Day Jaisalmer & Jodhpur Itinerary - Option 1

Jaisalmer is a former medieval trading center and a princely state in the western Indian state of Rajasthan, in the heart of the Thar Desert. Known as the "Golden City," it's distinguished by its yellow sandstone architecture. Dominating the skyline is Jaisalmer Fort, a sprawling hilltop citadel buttressed by 99 bastions. Behind its massive walls stand the ornate Maharaja's Palace and intricately carved Jain temples.

Jaisalmer Desert Camps are the best way to experience the magnificence of the desert under star-studded skies at night. Spend a night among the rolling sand dunes like the Maharajas of old, away from the noise of the city, surrounded by the magical beauty of the desert.

Jodhpur is a city in the Thar Desert of the northwest Indian state of Rajasthan. Its 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort is a former palace that's now a museum, displaying weapons, paintings and elaborate royal palanquins (sedan chairs). Set on on a rocky outcrop, the fort overlooks the walled city, where many buildings are painted the city's iconic shade of blue.

Day 1 – Arrive Jaisalmer & Golden Fort Walk

  • Arrive in Jaisalmer and check in to Hotel Rang Mahal or Hotel Fort Rajwada (both comfortable, well-rated options). After a brief rest, head to the Jaisalmer Fort for an evening walk through its narrow lanes, Jain temples, and old havelis. Enjoy sunset views over the golden city from one of the rooftop cafés and return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 – Desert Safari & Sam Sand Dunes

  • After breakfast, explore Patwon Ki Haveli and Nathmal Ki Haveli, admiring intricate stonework and traditional architecture. In the afternoon, drive to Sam Sand Dunes for a camel or jeep safari into the Thar Desert. Watch the sunset over the dunes, enjoy folk music and dance at a desert camp, then return to your Jaisalmer hotel (Rang Mahal or Fort Rajwada) for the night.

Day 3 – Gadisar Lake & Local Markets

  • Begin your day at Gadisar Lake for a peaceful boat ride and photo stops. Visit the local bazaars for handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs. Optionally, explore Bada Bagh cenotaphs for panoramic views and history. Spend your final evening in Jaisalmer relaxing at the hotel or enjoying a traditional Rajasthani dinner before overnight at Rang Mahal or Fort Rajwada.

Day 4 – Jaisalmer to Jodhpur & Clock Tower

  • Check out after breakfast and drive to Jodhpur (around 5–6 hours). On arrival, check in to Ajit Bhawan Palace or Ranbanka Palace, both heritage-style hotels with character and comfort. In the evening, stroll around the Clock Tower and Sardar Market, sampling local snacks and browsing spices, textiles, and handicrafts before returning to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 5 – Mehrangarh Fort & Blue City Views

  • After breakfast, visit the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, exploring its museums, courtyards, and ramparts with sweeping views of the blue-painted old city. Continue to Jaswant Thada, the serene marble cenotaph, and later visit the Umaid Bhawan Palace exterior and museum. Spend the evening at a rooftop restaurant near the fort before returning to Ajit Bhawan or Ranbanka Palace.

Day 6 – Bishnoi Village & Stepwells

  • Take a half-day excursion to a nearby Bishnoi village to experience rural life, wildlife spotting, and traditional crafts. Return to Jodhpur and visit Toorji Ka Jhalra stepwell and nearby cafés. Use the late afternoon for shopping or a heritage walk through the blue lanes of the old city. Overnight at Ajit Bhawan Palace or Ranbanka Palace.

Day 7 – Departure from Jodhpur

  • Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your hotel, then spend any remaining time revisiting the market or simply unwinding by the pool. Depending on your flight or train schedule, check out and transfer to Jodhpur Airport or railway station for your onward journey, carrying memories of the golden dunes of Jaisalmer and the royal charm of Jodhpur.

Day 1: Pick up from Jaisalmer airport. Drop at Som Sarai near Patwa ki Haveli Jaisalmer or similler. Afternoon local sightseeing of Jaisalmer Fort is the second oldest fort in Rajasthan, built in 1156 AD by the Rawal (ruler) Jaisal from whom it derives its name, and stood at the crossroads , Lake & Havelis.

Gadisar Lake is an artificial lake in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India. It was built by the founder of Jaisalmer, King Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD and later rebuilt by Gadsi Singh Bhati around 1367 AD. The lake is located about 1.5 km from Jaisalmer Fort. It is said that this lake once provided water to the entire city.

Famous Havelis in Jaisalmer

Patwon Ki Haveli. The most significant of Jaisalmer's Havelis is Patwaon Ki Haveli, an intriguing piece of architecture.

Nathmal Ki Haveli. The Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli is a masterpiece of stonework .

Salam Singh Ki Haweli (Moti Mahal): Salim Singh ki haveli is one of the well-known palaces in Jaisalmer, and one of the destinations on the top of lists. The haveli is an architectural wonder and has 35 balconies. The haveli is 300 years old. When it was ahead of its time for its unique structure.

Day 2: 02:30 PM Drop From hotel to Kanoi San Dunes (Desert Springs) Evening Camel Ride, Folk Dance & Dinner. Overnight at desert camp.

Mehrangarh Fort covers an area of 1,200 acres in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. The complex is located on a hilltop around 122 metres above the surrounding plain, and was constructed c. 1459 by Rajput ruler Rao Jodha, though most of the existing structure is from the 17th century.

The Jaswant Thada is a cenotaph located in Jodhpur, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur State in 1899 in memory of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, and serves as the cremation ground for the royal Rajput family of Marwar.

The garden is known for its lush surroundings, exquisite cenotaphs, and ancient temples. The garden is home to the Hall of Heroes, a memorial dedicated to Rajput folk heroes and deities, and the Shrine of the Three Hundred Million Gods, which houses colourful images of Hindu gods and goddesses.
