6-Day Mysore & Ooty Holiday Itinerary - Option 1
Mysore, officially Mysuru, is a city in Karnataka, India, known as the "City of Palaces" and the "Cultural Capital of Karnataka" for its rich heritage, palaces, and vibrant culture, including the famous Mysore Palace.
Ooty, officially Udhagamandalam, is a popular hill station in Tamil Nadu, India, known for its scenic beauty, pleasant climate, and colonial-era charm, earning it the title "Queen of Hill Stations".
Day 1 – Arrival & Mysore City Highlights
Arrive in Mysore and check in at Royal Orchid Metropole, Mysore (heritage-style, central location) or Fortune JP Palace, Mysore. After a short rest, visit Mysore Palace, St. Philomena’s Church, and enjoy an evening stroll at Brindavan Gardens with the musical fountain show. Overnight in Mysore.
Day 2 – Chamundi Hills & Local Culture
After breakfast, head to Chamundi Hills for panoramic city views and the Chamundeshwari Temple. Visit the Nandi Bull statue, then explore the Jaganmohan Palace Art Gallery or Rail Museum depending on interest. Evening free for shopping at the local market for silk, sandalwood, and sweets. Overnight at the same Mysore hotel.
Day 3 – Mysore to Ooty (Scenic Drive)
Check out after breakfast and drive towards Ooty via Bandipur/Mudumalai forest route (time and permits permitting, enjoy wildlife sightings from the vehicle). Arrive in Ooty and check in at Gem Park Ooty (great views, central) or Fortune Resort Sullivan Court, Ooty. Evening at leisure around Ooty Lake or a relaxed walk near the hotel. Overnight in Ooty.
Day 4 – Ooty Local Sightseeing
After breakfast, visit the famous Government Botanical Garden, Rose Garden, and enjoy boating at Ooty Lake. Later, explore Doddabetta Peak for panoramic Nilgiri views. Return to Gem Park Ooty or Fortune Resort Sullivan Court for a relaxed evening with optional bonfire or in-house activities. Overnight in Ooty.
Day 5 – Coonoor Excursion by Toy Train
Post breakfast, take the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (toy train) from Ooty to Coonoor (subject to ticket availability) or drive down by car. In Coonoor, visit Sim's Park, Lamb's Rock, and Dolphin's Nose for stunning valley views. Enjoy tea tasting at a local tea estate. Return to Ooty by evening and stay overnight at the same hotel.
Day 6 – Departure
After breakfast, check out from your Ooty hotel. Depending on your onward travel plans, drive towards Coimbatore, Mysore, or Bangalore for your return journey. If time permits, make brief photo stops at scenic viewpoints on the way. Trip ends with memorable experiences of royal Mysore and the cool Nilgiri hills.
