5-Day Hampi & Aihole Travel Itinerary - Option 1 

Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the site of the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, a last great Hindu Kingdom, and is known for its impressive ruins, including temples, palaces, and other ancient buildings, located in the Tungabhadra basin in Karnataka, India. 

Day 1: Arrival in Hampi
Arrive in Hampi and check into a comfortable heritage-style hotel near the main temple area. After a short rest, explore the Virupaksha Temple and walk through the Hampi Bazaar to get a feel of the ancient city. In the evening, enjoy sunset views from Hemakuta Hill and return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Royal Enclosures & Temples
After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Royal Enclosure, including the Mahanavami Dibba, Queen’s Bath, and Hazara Rama Temple. Continue to the Lotus Mahal and Elephant Stables in the Zenana Enclosure. Post-lunch, explore the underground Shiva temple and nearby ruins. Return to your Hampi hotel for a relaxed evening.

Day 3: Boulders, River & Sunset
Start early with a visit to the iconic Vittala Temple and its stone chariot, then walk along the riverside ruins. Cross to the Hippie Island side (if accessible) for café-style lunch and light bouldering or cycling among the paddy fields. In the late afternoon, climb Matanga Hill or Anjanadri Hill for panoramic sunset views. Overnight at the same Hampi hotel.

Day 4: Hampi to Aihole via Pattadakal
Check out from your Hampi hotel after breakfast and drive towards Aihole (via Pattadakal). En route, stop at Pattadakal, a UNESCO site known for its Chalukyan temples and intricate carvings. Continue to Aihole and check into a simple but clean local hotel or guesthouse. In the evening, take a leisurely walk around the village temples to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Day 5: Aihole Temples & Departure
After breakfast at your Aihole hotel, explore the Durga Temple complex, Lad Khan Temple, and other early Chalukyan structures that showcase the evolution of Indian temple architecture. Spend a few hours photographing and learning about the history before checking out. Drive back towards your onward destination (Hubli, Belgaum, or back to Hampi/Bengaluru) for departure.
